Privacy Policy
Effective October 10, 2026
The short version
- Students never sign up. We never ask a student for an email address, birthday, school or last name.
- Students practicing on their own: their name, PIN and typing results stay in the browser on their device. They are not sent to us.
- Students in a teacher's class: the teacher adds them by first name or nickname, and their typing results are saved to that teacher's account so the teacher can see them. Only the teacher can see them, and the teacher can delete them at any time.
- Ads are non-personalized and marked as directed to children, so they are not based on a child's interests or browsing.
- Our analytics use no cookies and record no personal information.
Who we are
TFE Keyboarding (keyboarding.techforeveryone.app) is a free typing and mouse-skills site from Tech for Everyone. It is made for students from preschool through 12th grade, and for the teachers and families who help them. Because many of our users are under 13, we designed the site to work without collecting personal information from children, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
What is saved on your device
When a student types their name and a 4-digit PIN, the site saves a profile in that browser's local storage. The profile holds:
- the name they typed (a first name or nickname is all that's needed) and their PIN
- results from each lesson and mouse game: speed, accuracy, stars, keys typed and time spent
- a random ID for the student and one for the device, used to keep results in order
- display settings, such as whether the on-screen hands are shown and which "What's new" notes were read
This information stays on the device. We do not receive it, and it is not shared with advertisers or analytics. The PIN only keeps classmates on a shared computer from opening each other's progress; it is not a secure password.
To delete it, clear this site's data in the browser settings (often called "cookies and site data"). This removes every profile saved on that device.
This applies to students practicing without a class. Students in a teacher's class are covered below.
Teacher accounts and classes
Teachers can create a free account with their name, email address and a password. A teacher creates classes and adds students by first name or nickname. Each student gets a 4-digit PIN, and signs in with their class code and PIN. Teachers can also move students who were practicing on a classroom computer into a class, which uploads that student's past results.
For students in a class, we store:
- the name the teacher entered and the student's PIN, which only that teacher can see
- results from each typing lesson: speed, accuracy, stars, keys typed, time spent and when it was done
- a random ID for the student and for each device they used
We use this only to show the teacher their students' progress, including a weekly summary email to the teacher, and to let the student pick up where they left off on any computer. It is never used for ads, never sold and never shared with anyone except the service providers that host it for us (Appwrite, our database host). Ads and analytics on the site never receive it, and the teacher pages show no ads.
If a teacher clicks "Subscribe to updates", we add their name and email address to our Mailchimp mailing list to send them news about TFE Keyboarding. No student information goes to Mailchimp. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Teachers act for their school when they add students. By creating an account, a teacher confirms they are a teacher or school staff member and have their school's permission to use TFE Keyboarding with their students, as the school may consent for students under 13 when a service is used only for school. Parents who want to see or delete their child's class data can ask the teacher, or contact us below.
Removing a student, or deleting a class, permanently deletes that student's stored results. To delete a whole teacher account and everything in it, contact us below.
Advertising
Some pages (lesson lists, typing practice and worksheets) show ads from Google AdSense, labeled "Advertisement". Ads keep the site free.
- We request non-personalized ads only, and every ad request is tagged forchild-directed treatment. Google then turns off interest-based advertising and remarketing for those requests.
- Non-personalized ads are chosen from the page's content and the general location (such as city) of the visitor, not from a profile of the visitor.
- Google may still use cookies or similar technology for limited purposes such as limiting how often an ad is shown, measuring ads in aggregate and preventing fraud.
Learn more inhow Google uses information in advertisingand the Google Privacy Policy. We do not share any information about students with Google or any other advertiser.
Analytics
We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which uses no cookies and stores no personal information. It tells us things like how many people visited a page, which website sent them, and their country and device type, only as totals. It cannot identify or follow an individual visitor.
Other services the site uses
- Lesson videos. Some lessons include a YouTube video in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). The video loads from YouTube, and playing it is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
- Error reports. If something on a page breaks, the browser sends a technical report toSentry so we can fix it. The report holds the error, the page address, and the browser and device type. It does not include names, PINs, typing results or IP addresses.
- Fonts. The site's fonts load from Google Fonts, so Google receives the browser's IP address and type when a page loads.Google Fonts privacy FAQ.
- Hosting. Like every website, our hosting provider handles standard request information, such as IP address and the page requested, to deliver pages and keep the service secure.
- Worksheets. Printable worksheets download directly from this site with no sign-up.
For schools and teachers
Students can use TFE Keyboarding without a class, and then no student records reach Tech for Everyone. If you create a class, the results of the students you add are stored for you as described inTeacher accounts and classes, and you can remove them at any time. Use first names or nicknames only. On shared classroom computers, clear site data at the end of the year if you want to remove profiles saved on the computer itself.
For parents
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it. You can see your child's saved results on a device at any time on My Progress, and delete them by clearing this site's data in the browser.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will not start collecting personal information from children without first updating this policy and obtaining any consent the law requires.
